Every Fictional Story Has Its Truths

Every fictional story has its truths, just as every true story has its fiction. My fictional stories are a mish-mash of both. Since I don’t know what’s going to happen from sentence to sentence; I’m in as much surprise as everyone else as the story unfolds.
I’ve written like this from the start, and only when I worked with an agent; did I realize that I write backwards according to most people’s standards. Everyone is taught to start with an outline. That’s why outlines have always been a problem with me. I've never had any. In order to write one; I have to rewrite the book and then decide what the bones of it are.
Because I was blissfully unaware that I was doing it backwards: it worked for me. Since my attention span is short, if I knew what was going to happen from sentence to sentence; I’d have no desire to write the book. Not knowing keeps it exciting, because I get to put it together along with everyone else.
