The Fancy Box

Updated: May 7

Did you know that Stephen King was rejected for 11 years prior to being published? He said that he would store his rejection letters in a fancy wooden box so that he could admire the journey as something to remember.

So, I did just that. I bought a fancy box that held all my rejections, excluding the unopened packages. (Those could fill a warehouse!) I used the fancy box for 18 years. Two years ago, I tossed the box, but kept the contents.

Recently, I paged through those rejections. In fact, I read each and every one of them. I couldn’t help think how far I’ve come since then and how far I have yet to go. So, even though I don’t get rejections anymore; I’m still going to get another fancy box. Although this box will be filled with invoices for all the stores that are carry my books. With any luck, more fancy boxes will follow.
