Questions about video vs. writing

Q - What do you like doing more? Writing or video?

A – It depends on what I need at the time. Video is like junk-food to me. No matter how much I do; I can’t get enough. I pig out on it. Writing is the opposite. Writing for me is more like eating steak and potato. I feel more satisfied afterwards.

Video helps me conquer writer’s block. However lately, I’ve had video block. I feel like I can barely get through making one. I think it’s because of all the marketing videos I make for my brand; it’s become the same old video over and over again. I know it has to be that way to help create the brand, but I need something fun to sink my teeth into.

Q- What are your favourite videos to make?

A – My favourites (besides festivals) are ATV’ing one (Mag Mudders series) and historical videos (Magnetawan series)

I love telling true stories, especially historical; but I like doing it through video. If I was going to embark on a video-venture; historical videos would be my first choice & fun action ones like Mag Mudders series second. Also, I love doing new vocal-artist videos, design videos & cooking videos.

Q- How or when did you learn to do video?

A – I learned to do video right before I went out on the road with my husband for his job. We lived on the road for 5 months a year in an Rv doing concerts. Since it was a loud & busy environment; I couldn’t write. So instead, I threw myself into video 24/7.

I filmed our adventures with a cast of people which turned into a youtube series that eventually became pilot for a tv show. It nearly went to production on year four; but I decided against it because we could not agree on the terms.

In truth, I was relieved, because I had more fun filming it and having people tune in every week for new episodes than I was being under the gun to produce masterpieces that may or may not see the light of day. Since we were on the road for 10 years, I have more than a million videos, so I’m sure I’ll dive back into it someday. For now, it’s meat and potatoes for me.
