Hazards associated with asbestos
Specifics of the asbestos exposure control plan (ECP) and safe work procedure (SWP)
Full suiting in respirators/ Tyvek and a complete mock-up of one safe work procedure including:
- Tools required
- Double bagging
- Decontamination

1. Asbestos Awareness
Responsibilities – Supervisor/ worker/ company
Hazards of asbestos
Characteristics of Asbestos
Typical places to find asbestos (in industry and in the home)
Exposure limit in BC
Difference between Low/ Moderate and High-risk asbestos work
- Respirator differences
- Enclosure differences
- Decontamination differences
How to control exposure to asbestos
2. Safe Work Procedures
Prepping for project (i.e. NOPa, fit testing, traffic control)
Marking out utilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Methods to expose pipe
Tool usage
- What’s allowed
Disposal
- How to double bag and double poly wrap – when to use
- Discussion on bin liners
Decontamination
- Workers: Moderate versus high hazard
- Equipment: Requirement to clean off tools, equipment, excavator etc. prior to leaving excavation

4.Inventory requirements
Modifying inventories as asbestos is removed or found
