A Memorable Moment

One of the most memorable moments I’ve had through this process of being published; is during the winter that Onions was in Wal-Mart. The week leading up to the book-signing, a local radio station was giving away my book as prizes for on the air contests. I was listening to this as I drove home.

It was a cold snowy night and my heat didn’t work in my car. I struggled to see through a tiny hole that was shrinking the further I went. I listened to the radio, amazed that so many people were trying to win one of my books.

Then, a caller, who answered the skill testing question incorrectly; began to cry. She said that she wanted the book so badly because her sister said it was great. As she’s explaining why she is crying to the announcer; my gas light went on, along with a ‘low fuel’ warning.

At any other time, I’d be cursing. Instead, I was crying tears of joy. Despite the fact that I as freezing, barely able to see and about to run out of gas; I was thrilled. I had no money; but people were reading my book and that’s what mattered to me. I told myself that the struggles would eventually pay off.
